We have challenged ourselves and reflected on our purpose and calling as Christians.
This has led us to revisit our vision for Keswick Methodist Church for the 21st century: “Vision 21”.
We are looking to open up our church to be outward facing to the needs of our community. Christians have worshipped at Southey Street for over 150 years. The last major building work was in 1909. We are now looking to revitalise our building in order to make Vision 21 come alive. Following the review of our vision, we worked closely with our architect in order to maximise our buildings to make it accessible and useful to our community. The old hall at the rear of the Church will be sold to support the development of more affordable housing for the local population. The main church building will be made level throughout and consist of two large hall areas to provide flexibility of worship and wider community use. A modern kitchen will provide a key area for hospitality together with a new extension for new and accessible toilets.
Our vision is to follow and serve as disciples of Jesus Christ:
To be a loving and serving Christian presence at the heart of our community – a welcoming community where everyone can belong.
To contribute to solutions for Keswick’s lack of affordable housing by releasing some of our land.
To particularly welcome and serve the needs of our local population.
To provide Christian hospitality for the thousands of visitors to the town each year.
To enable the wider mission of the Church through “God for all” in partnership with all Christians in the area.
